This report ranks the top 100 cities in the U.S. where it\u2019s challenging to live with asthma. AAFA\u2019s report shows how community factors can drive up asthma rates. And while where you live can affect your asthma, you can use Certified\u00a0<strong> <strong>Asthma &#038; Allergy Friendly\u00ae<\/strong><\/strong>\u00a0products to improve the air quality in your home to reduce exposure to triggers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to AAFA, here are some ways to create an asthma-friendly home:<\/li>\n<li>Use a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asthmaandallergyfriendly.com\/USA\/hvac-furnace-filters\">Certified filter<\/a>\u00a0in your air conditioning system<\/li>\n<li>Protect yourself from dust mites in your bedroom by using\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asthmaandallergyfriendly.com\/USA\/bedding\">allergen barrier mattress and pillow covers<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Vacuum floors weekly with a certified vacuum cleaner<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t allow smoking in your home or car<\/li>\n<li>Avoid heavily scented products like candles, potpourri and wax melts<\/li>\n<li>Use \u201cgreen\u201d or\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.asthmaandallergyfriendly.com\/USA\/cleaning-products\">unscented cleaning products<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Keep your windows closed during high pollen season or on poor air quality days<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are just some of the ways you can\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aafa.org\/page\/indoor-air-quality.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">improve your home\u2019s air quality<\/a>. Whether you live in an Asthma Capital or not, creating a healthier home can be a big step toward managing your asthma.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reducing Rates<\/strong><br \/>\n\u201cWarmer temperatures from climate change are increasing ground-level ozone levels, especially in more urban, industrialized areas,\u201d says Kenneth Mendez, President and CEO of AAFA. \u201cThis, combined with a lack of policies to protect those with asthma living in poorly maintained rental housing and inadequate health care, creates a perfect storm of asthma prevalence. We\u2019ve seen ways communities can make changes to help asthma patients.
