On May 21, the Asthma & Allergy Friendly<\/strong>\u00ae Certification Program returned to Chicago to support the Chicago Asthma Consortium’s 2026 Community Health Worker Educational Forum<\/a> at Sinai Chicago. The event brought together community health workers (CHWs) and asthma educators from across the city for a day of training, networking, and collaborative outreach, with the Certification Program participating as a supporting educational partner alongside a coalition of Certified partners.<\/p>\n

At the heart of the day was a community engagement session in which attendees helped pack 300 Asthma & Allergy Friendly<\/strong>\u00ae Resource Tote Bags, filled with educational materials from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA)<\/a> and product contributions from Certified partners, Alen<\/a>, Blueair<\/a>, Filtrete\u2122<\/sup><\/a>, Kleenex\u00ae<\/sup><\/a>, Live Comfortably<\/a>, National Allergy<\/a>, Rabbit Air<\/a>, Renegade Brands<\/a> and SIJO<\/a>\u00a0. Those bags are now making their way into schools, clinics, churches, and community centers across Chicago, putting trusted asthma education resources directly into the hands of the families and neighborhoods that need them most.<\/p>\n

More than 106 million people in the United States live with asthma and\/or allergies, with the burden falling heaviest in communities where access to education and healthier home environments remains out of reach. Events like this are central to the Certification Program’s mission: to go beyond product certification and actively support the educators, outreach workers, and community organizations working on the front lines of asthma care.<\/p>\n

Chicago Asthma Consortium’s 2026 Educational Forum equips community health workers with trusted resources and tools to support asthma education and outreach across Chicago.<\/em><\/h2>\n

Washington, D.C. (10 June, 2026)<\/strong> – On May 21, the Asthma & Allergy Friendly<\/strong>\u00ae Certification Program returned to Chicago to support a hands-on educational forum designed to equip community health workers with practical asthma education tools and outreach resources.<\/p>\n

Hosted by the Chicago Asthma Consortium (CAC)<\/a> at Sinai Health System’s Glasser Auditorium, the Community Health Worker Educational Forum brought together community health workers (CHWs) and asthma educators from across the city for a day of training, networking, and collaborative outreach. The Certification Program participated as a supporting educational partner alongside CAC and a coalition of Certified partners.<\/p>\n

The forum was led by Karmin Wright, Asthma Outreach and Education Coordinator at the South Side Pediatric Asthma Center, with a featured presentation from Martha Baca-Ryan, Ambulatory Case Manager at Sinai Medical Group. A panel discussion with Jannette Guzman and Jorge Hernandez of the Sinai Urban Health Institute, and Jenay Plummer of the South Side Pediatric Asthma Center, offered attendees practical strategies for engaging families managing asthma in underserved Chicago communities.<\/p>\n

As part of the event’s community engagement session, attendees helped pack 300 Asthma & Allergy Friendly<\/strong>Resource Tote Bags filled with educational materials provided by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and contributions from Certified partners. The bags will now support asthma outreach in schools, clinics, churches, and community centers throughout Chicago.
