Popular Science Magazine conducted extensive research, reached out to experts, and did plenty of first-hand testing to compile this list of the best air purifiers for smoke and Rabbit Air’s CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly® air purifier comes out top for “Best Wall Mountable”! The article describes the award winning air purifier as follows:
The Rabbit A3 can change the air four times an hour in a 535 sq. ft. area and two times an hour in a 1,070 sq. ft. area. The sensors on the Rabbit A3 detect pollutants and automatically adjust fan speed as necessary. The air purifier has a 6-stage filtration process that includes a washable pre-filter that should be cleaned every 3 months. The medium filter traps smoke, pollen, and pet dander, while the activated carbon filter traps and removes odors, and the BioGS HEPA filter traps particles 0.3 microns in size. Rabbit also makes a customized filter, available in four options: germ defense, pet allergy, toxin absorber, and odor remover. The medium, activated charcoal, BioGS HEPA and customized filters are included in the filter kit, and are replaced at 12-month intervals, depending on use. Replacing the kit is easy, since the front panel snaps off.
This is not the first time that Rabbit Air has featured on a best air purifier list: Rabbit Air’s CERTIFIED Minus A2 ranked as one of the best air purifiers in The Strategist’s category of best quiet air purifier and in Reader’s Digest Rabbit Air featured in “The 11 Best Air Purifiers Worth Buying”
One of the experts sought out by Popular Science was Dr. John McKeon, CEO of Allergy Standards Ltd, who commented
When shopping for an air purifier specifically for smoke filtration, look for models that have been independently tested and certified by reputable third parties like the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program. He points to the Rabbit Air A3 as being CERTIFIED asthma & allergy friendly®.
Many allergens, including pet dander and dust mite allergen, are prone to become airborne. Effective air purifiers are part of a multi-faceted approach to allergen reduction in the home. In order for an air cleaner to earn the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification, strict standards for appropriate levels must be met when:
- Reducing allergens from the air
- Monitoring allergen levels after use to ensure reduction of allergens is a result of removal, not just redistribution
- Monitoring ozone levels to ensure they remain within the Code of Federal Regulations Guidelines.
