The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) National Conference & Exhibition 2026 in San Diego brought together pediatricians and child health professionals from across the United States. Our colleagues at the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) were at Booth 1241, sharing Asthma & Allergy Friendly® certified products alongside AAFA’s patient education resources.

Why Pediatric Conferences Matter

Pediatricians are some of the most important people in the conversation about childhood asthma. Families turn to them for guidance on managing asthma and allergies, including questions about the home.

According to AAFA’s 2026 factsheet:

  • Close to 5 million U.S. children under 18 (about 7 out of 100) have asthma.
  • Asthma is a top chronic disease in U.S. children. Only tooth decay (cavities) is more common.
  • In 2022, over half (53%) of children with asthma reported one or more asthma attacks in the past year. For children under 5, that figure was 68 out of 100.
  • Even though asthma is controllable, an estimated 44 out of 100 children with asthma have uncontrolled asthma.
  • Only about half of children with asthma have been given an asthma action plan.

Asthma also continues to be a leading cause of missed school days, which makes it a challenge for whole families, not only clinicians.

Education, education, education. Every conversation at Booth 1241 was a chance to help families and the professionals who care for them understand how the home environment fits into the bigger picture.

Trusted by Design

The Asthma & Allergy Friendly® Certification Program is a partnership between AAFA, a leading patient advocacy organization, and Allergy Standards Limited (ASL). Together, they develop scientific standards and independent tests to certify products for healthier homes, schools and workplaces.

This is what makes the Certification Program a natural fit for pediatric conferences. It is grounded in patient advocacy and backed by science. Pediatricians can point families to a single, independent mark that helps them find products tested to help create a healthier indoor environment.

The booth showcased certified products from across the home, including a robot vacuum, air purifiers, HVAC air filters, flooring, laundry detergent and a plush toy, along with Asthma & Allergy Friendly® tote bags for visitors.
