What makes the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program unique is that it’s backed by science. Many products claim to be “hypoallergenic,” but there’s no proof to back up that claim.
Our program tests products in independent laboratories to make sure the products actually do what they say they can do.
Standards
When creating a new standard for a product category, we look at:
- Contributions from technical and industry experts
- Scientific papers and clinical studies
- Related national and international standards
- Testing done by Allergy Standards
We have 46 testing standards covering 17 categories of products and services. We then test products based on their approved standards.
Each product is tested to make sure it meets certain standards set for that type of product. An independent medical panel helps us decide the standards a product must meet to be CERTIFIED.
Testing
We test products based on both international standards and our own methods. Our tests make sure each product meets the criteria for its category. We work with an approved network of internationally-recognized testing laboratories.
Only products that pass all of our tests may use the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Mark. Over 200 products in the U.S. are currently CERTIFIED.
