Removing Allergens and Indoor Pollutants in the Entire Home Benefits Those With Asthma and Allergies
The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) and Allergy Standards Limited (ASL) announced today that the Trane CleanEffects® whole home air cleaner from Trane, a leading global provider of indoor comfort solutions and a brand of Ingersoll Rand, has earned asthma & allergy friendly® Certification. This is the first whole home air cleaner to receive the program’s mark.
The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program, an independent program administered in the United States by AAFA with their partner ASL, helps consumers identify products more suitable for people with asthma and allergies.
“We are very pleased the AAFA and ASL recognized the need for a standard to include whole home air cleaners in the asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Program. The Trane CleanEffects offers consumers patented air cleaning technology that cleans the air 100 times more efficiently than a standard 1-inch filter,” said Jay Ayers, Indoor Air Quality Portfolio Leader for Trane. “The benchmark standards that our product was required to meet for the Certification Mark are quite impressive and independently validates the performance of our product in improving indoor comfort and air quality for families.”
Allergen avoidance in the home is now accepted as part of a preventative treatment plan for those with asthma and allergies. It is a complement to the overall concept of home health. A whole home air cleaner installed in the ductwork of homes with central forced air can improve indoor air quality and remove airborne allergens.
The asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Mark is awarded only to those products that that are scientifically proven to reduce exposure to asthma and allergy triggers. Whole home air cleaners must meet the program’s strict standards by reducing exposure to allergens in the home.
To earn the mark, a whole home air cleaner is evaluated for:
- Allergen and particle removal capability
- Particle removal capability during accelerated loading and post-cleaning
“Indoor air can often be more polluted than outdoor air,” said AAFA’s Acting CEO Lynda Mitchell. “A whole home air cleaning system is an effective way to give families cleaner, healthier indoor air. We are glad that Trane recognizes the importance of improving the air of the entire home.”
“Because the Trane CleanEffects whole home air cleaner adheres to our strict standards, we are pleased to certify it as asthma and allergy friendly,” said Dr. John McKeon, CEO of ASL. “This system has been proven appropriate for those who want to reduce allergens and improve air quality in their entire home.”
